Each cord has different characteristics depending on the yarn material, size, and construction. Differences in materials can affect the cord’s feel, weight, length, color options, flexibility, and suitability for specific product applications.
Mukti Djaya Talikur uses three main materials to manufacture cord products: PP (Polypropylene), POY (Partially Oriented Yarn), and Polyester. Each material is used for different cord requirements, allowing customers to choose according to their product characteristics, color, size, and intended application.
In addition to size and cord construction, the material type can also affect the cord’s feel, shape, weight, and length per package.
Cord material selection should be based on your product requirements, desired characteristics, color options, size, and intended application.
| Cord Material | Cord Construction | Available Colors |
|---|---|---|
| PP (Polypropylene) | Needle-Knitted | 46 Colors |
| POY (Partially Oriented Yarn) | Needle-Knitted | White |
| Polyester | Braided | Black and White |

Polypropylene
PP (Polypropylene) is one of the yarn raw materials used by Mukti Djaya Talikur to manufacture Needle-Knitted PP Cord. This material is relatively lightweight compared to POY and is available in a wider range of colors. In terms of feel, the PP cord we produce generally has a medium texture, falling between soft and stiff.
With the same size and weight, Needle-Knitted PP Cord yields a longer length than POY. This difference in length is related to the weight characteristics of the yarn material used.
PP is available in approximately 46 color options, making it suitable for products that require a variety of colors and greater flexibility in cord color selection.
PP cord tends to retain its shape after being made, making it suitable for various product applications that require cord with a relatively stable shape.

Partially Oriented Yarn
POY (Partially Oriented Yarn) is one of the yarn raw materials used by Mukti Djaya Talikur to manufacture Needle-Knitted POY Cord. Compared to PP, POY has a heavier material characteristic. As a result, with the same size and weight, the cord length tends to be shorter. In terms of feel, POY cord has characteristics similar to PP and generally has a medium texture, falling between soft and stiff.
With the same size and weight, Needle-Knitted POY Cord yields a shorter length than PP. Therefore, the number of meters per package cannot be considered equivalent based on weight alone.
POY can be a more cost-effective alternative to PP for certain needle-knitted cord requirements, especially when its material feel and white color option suit your product requirements.
Currently, Needle-Knitted POY Cord manufactured by Mukti Djaya Talikur is focused on white only.
POY cord also tends to retain its shape after being made.
This makes it suitable for various product applications that require cord with a relatively stable shape.
Note:
For handicraft applications, such as bags and similar products, POY material is generally less suitable because its cord feel tends to be heavier and slightly stiff.

Polyester
Polyester is used by Mukti Djaya Talikur to manufacture Polyester Braided Cord. Compared to PP and POY, Polyester has a softer feel.
Polyester Braided Cord is available in two types: Non-Filled and Filled. The Filled type uses either a combination of fabric and needle-knitted cord or fabric only. The difference between these two types lies in the inner part of the cord, while the outer part retains its braided construction.
Polyester has a softer feel than PP and POY. This characteristic is one of the factors to consider when selecting it for specific product applications.
Polyester cord is available in two construction options: Non-Filled and Filled. The difference lies in whether filling material is present inside the braided cord.
Polyester cord is available in different colors depending on its construction type. Non-Filled Polyester Braided Cord is available in black and white, while Filled Polyester Braided Cord with Fabric and Needle-Knitted Cord Filling / Fully Fabric-Filled Construction is currently available in white only.
PP, POY, and Polyester have different characteristics. PP is lighter than POY and is available in approximately 46 color options. POY has a heavier material characteristic than PP and is a more cost-effective option for certain requirements. Meanwhile, Polyester has a softer feel than PP and POY and is used to manufacture Polyester Braided Cord.
Based on the characteristics of the cord materials manufactured by Mukti Djaya Talikur, the order from the softest to the relatively stiffest is as follows: Polyester → PP → POY.
The same package weight does not necessarily mean the same cord length. Cord material and size play important roles in determining the length of cord in each package. Because PP, POY, and Polyester have different material weight characteristics, cords with the same size and weight can produce different lengths.
The cord length in each package varies depending on the material, size, and weight or gram weight. Generally, the larger the cord size, the shorter the length obtained at the same weight. To find out the estimated length for a specific size and gram weight, please consult the Mukti Djaya Talikur team.
